The Ultimate Question: Homeschooling or "Normal" School?

Image
I have experienced both homeschooling and public school, so I will try not to be biased.  I was homeschooled  all my life by my mom and started going to school for Grade 11.   "Homeschooling" is when a student is taught at home under the guidance of a parent; public school is when a student is taught in a school building under the guidance of teachers.  Each side has its pros and cons, as it is with any debate but this one in particular has always been a heated one (second to Yanny or Laurel - I hear Yanny). Let's start with the pros.  PROS Homeschooling student can study at their own pace (especially children who are gifted academically or socially or have learning disabilities or other forms of disabilities)  flexibility of time (student can take time off when needed and catch up later) vacationing is easy (can take time off to travel) learning can be incorporated in fun things such as travel and count as schoolwork working independentl...

HOLD UP! Did The 2018 Film "Early Man" Predict The World Cup Final?!

Image
Just this year, we were blessed with the release of a new Aardman production: Early Man , starring British icons Eddie Redmayne and Tom Hiddleston. The story follows Dug, voiced by Redmayne, an early caveman who has to come face to face with the Bronze Age in an epic football match to save his peoples' land. The film is heavy on soccer themes and its perfectly timed World Cup release is an interesting coincidence. Or is it?  England has been having its best ever World Cup run since 1966, just beating Columbia 1-1 (4-3 on penalties) and advancing to the Quarter-Finals. Did Early Man have something to do with it? The film focuses heavily on British football pride and is eerily similar to the actual events of the World Cup. Dug and his friends come face to face with Lord Nooth's Germanic football stars, which could represent Germany being knocked out in the Group Stages, but could also represent Sweden, a country that ALSO made it to the Quarter-Finals with a 1-0 win over Switze...

10 Reasons Why Lizzie McGuire Is The Best Disney Channel Show Of All Time

Image
I was a Nickelodeon kid, born and raised. I remember rushing home before 6 o'clock to catch the latest episode of iCarly or Victorious. Partly because my parents never bought the Disney Channel, and YTV (our Canadian children's' programming channel that played most of the Nick shows) is a public domain channel. So I never really watched Disney, unless it was the rare occasion when we'd get a free trial of it and then it would disappear after a month. Sad times. But I still watched a few shows via YouTube and said free trial, including  Gamer's Guide to Pretty Much Everything, Suite Life on Deck, Liv & Maddie, Jessie, and, of course , Lizzie McGuire. I always had a little guilty pleasure for a good old teen sitcom. But out of all the shows I've seen (both Disney and Nick) Lizzie McGuire is my all-time favourite. I have only started watching it recently, after I decided to watch a random episode one day when I was bored, and I've never looked back since....

The 2018 World Cup is An International Phenomena

Image
The World Cup 2018 kicked off in Russia yesterday, beginning an international phenomena that has been shaking the world every four years since 1930, and I'm living for it. All around the world people are clamoring into sports bars or in front of their TV to tune into this sports event. The World Cup Final saw 3.2 billion in-home viewers in 2014, and prior to that 910 million people watched at least part of the final match in South Africa 2010 (according to FIFA). Compared to that, the 2014 Super Bowl saw 111.5 million views worldwide (103.4 in 2018) and the 2014 Olympics saw 21.4 million views and the 2018 Korea Olympics saw its lowest ever at 19.8 million views. So, why does the World Cup have the highest views of a sports event of all time? I'm taking a look at this question and seeing what I can make of it. 1. People love soccer. Out of all the team sports, soccer (known as football in most of the world) is the most beloved sport. It's simple! You don't need a...
