Survivor 47 Episode 10 - Positives and Negatives of Remaining Players & Ranking Winner Contenders

First off - Rome's boot list was wrong! At least when it came to the predicted Caroline boot, so we seem to be in the clear...for now. There's still a chance that they could be right, but at least for tonight, I can forget about it, and go back to doing what I love - overanalyzing stuff. And boy oh boy was this episode a lot.

Last week, I had Gabe ranked at 7th out of 9, and he ended up being the one to go home, so once again, I was decently close! I think I'm onto something here, tbh. So, let's see where everyone stands going into Episode 11 tonight.

#1. Andy (19:10)

Positives

  • got a mat chat
  • is shown last in the opening credits with a beaming smile (like Dee in 45)
  • "i see this as a numbers game" confessional early on in premiere
  • gained strategic prominence at the merge
  • has told us his strategies and is shown doing them (pretending to be on the bottom/pathetic to lower threat level, pit people against each other)
  • well-liked by everyone, is shown making everyone laugh right before Teeny's confessional
  • has a web of allies and connections (the charming assassin) and is always being pulled into plans
  • plenty of emotional content/growth arc (transformation montage)
  • fits all the themes (finding a community, forging his own path away from Gata, being underestimated by everyone)
  • has titled 4 episodes
  • high confessional time (17:05 mins) and has narrated a lot of key events
  • gets some positive SPV from Genevieve, Rachel and Sam
  • flashback sequence clearly establishes him and Rachel as the complex duo of the season
  • is in a power position so much so that Rachel is forced to have to align with him after initially refusing pre-merge
  • wasn't clowned on in Episode 9 at all (challenge flub was glossed over) and only had one moment in Episode 10 (biting the ball)
  • jeff talked to him a lot at tribal
  • is shown as part of the underdog alliance in NTOS
  • his NTOS run is insane (always gets a confessional)
  • read Sue like a book and talked about who he wants to sit with at the end
  • gets his strategic way (wanted Sierra, Sierra goes, wanted Gabe, Gabe goes)

Negatives

  • had a really, really bad Episode 1 that could've damaged his strategic credibility for the rest of the game
  • was clowned on really heavily in the pre-merge (more so than any other New Era winner to date)
  • negative SPV from all his Gata tribemates pre-merge
  • still a chance that he's being delusional about being in a power position
  • schoolyard pick monologue about being last picked was cut
  • no backstory package yet
  • increasing villainous tone that could spell a downfall (is he the villain of the season that they take down at F6/5?)
  • gets barely any SPV from the other players (really needs this tonight to remain a winner contender)
  • could be getting overconfident too soon
  • extremely overexposed to the point of absurdity (it's literally the Andy show ft. everyone else)

#2. Teeny (12:2)

Positives

  • got a mat chat
  • got a lot of focus in the premiere
  • great intro shot
  • gets a lot of narrative content even when it doesn't directly involve them
  • gets lots of emotional content (we're shown how they feel a lot)
  • likeability is super high, great SPV
  • has a high confessional time (14:32 mins)
  • GOT A BACKSTORY PACKAGE!
  • is portrayed as someone we should sympathize for but not pity/laugh at (edit takes them seriously)
  • is becoming part of that new alliance with Sam and Andy, and also is part of the new "underdogs" group in the NTOS
  • was asked Jeff a question at tribal council about community - the theme of the season
  • great underdog arc forming

Negatives

  • has lost everyone they've tried to work with (had to vote out their #1 ally)
  • weaker strategically (has had to acquiesce to the larger group a lot)

#3. Rachel (13:9)

Positives

  • "we won as a community" quote
  • from the complex tribe (gata)
  • gained strategic visibility during the merge
  • gets a lot of advantages and is shown using them in smart ways, like the shot in the dark move which she then got to explain fully with flashbacks in the next episode
  • high confessional time (14:00 mins) and gets to narrate some big events
  • positive SPV of people telling us she's a threat
  • solid underdog story (playing from the bottom, fighting to survive)
  • flashback sequence clearly establishes her and Andy as the complex duo of the season
  • tiny bit of personal content with her chat with Sol about their families owning stores
  • production went out of their way to recreate rice moment because it told us something about her
  • "I want to be the ocean" quote was very winner-y
  • is shown as part of the underdog alliance in the NTOS
  • showed decent jury management in her only tribal answer (did the jury buy it?)

Negatives

  • late confessional in premiere
  • opening credit shot is super brief and she's looking away
  • STILL NONE OF THAT DAMN PERSONAL CONTENT. I keep waiting for it and it never comes!!!
  • no mention of her idol
  • struggles with social game (doesn't have a lot of allies, should've gone home if it wasn't for the Safety Without Power, just lost another ally in Sol and doesn't trust Sam anymore)
  • was undermined by the edit when her "andy is my guy!" got directly contrasted with andy's confessional about being a lethal player, is portrayed to be obliviously walking into a dangerous situation (his web)
  • struggling to see how she connects with the themes (has no clear community/allies, hasn't forged her path/made any clear strategic move, and isn't underestimated)
  • was only asked one question by jeff in the entire tribal, not even when they were talking about the theme of the season (community)
  • did not get her way with gabe going home

#4. Sam (9:4)

Positives

  • was introduced in the opening minutes of premiere with a backstory package
  • "wolf in wolf's clothing"
  • member of the complex tribe (gata)
  • great intro shot
  • lots of confessionals (16:56 mins)
  • his story with Andy seems to central to the season
  • gaining some strategic ground, currently trying to form an alliance that will run the game
  • got his way with gabe going home
  • jeff talked to him at tribal and related him directly to the community theme

Negatives

  • made a hilariously bad move blowing up the Sol plan when Rachel trusted him with the info, she clearly doesn't trust him anymore
  • was pressured into giving up his shot in the dark (didn't look good for him)
  • didn't get his strategic way (his plan to get Sue failed)
  • hasn't titled an episode

#5. Genevieve (8:6)

Positives

  • "breathe in" shot in the opening minutes
  • voice over confessional opens the premiere
  • really good shot in opening credits (beaming smile)
  • decently good at strategy
  • the kishan breakout episode was legendary
  • titled an episode ("Scales Be Tippin'")
  • decent confessional time (12:18 mins) and narrates a lot
  • some emotional content

Negatives

  • super invisible in the premiere
  • has a 0 confessional episode
  • no personal content or backstory package yet
  • not quite fitting the themes (except for forging her own path)
  • is clearly on the bottom and in trouble. like there's no way she's not going home soon after this
  • so clearly a gamebot in every sense of the term

#6. Caroline (8:8)

Positives

  • decent intro shot (tucking hair behind ears, facing forward)
  • a solid strategic mind (likes to be in control of the vote, made the smart move of telling everyone she didn't have a vote)
  • a big strategic threat but few people are clocking her right now
  • good social skills (hyping people up, people seem to like her)
  • "I decided to keep playing Survivor" quote
  • confessionals are few but very insightful
  • was the deciding vote in sending Gabe home
  • is shown as part of that underdog alliance in NTOS

Negatives

  • introduced too late in the premiere
  • really bad pre-merge content
  • no personal content to speak of
  • not really hitting the themes (underestimation, community)
  • atrociously low confessional time (5:44 mins)
  • hasn't titled an episode
  • was only given the bare minimum screentime when she was in a swing vote
  • didn't tell Sue about the Gabe vote (will she be able to gain Sue's trust back? how good is she at damage control?)

#7. Kyle (7:7)

Positives

  • was introduced with a backstory package in the opening minutes of premiere
  • nice people can win quote
  • has some funny side moments
  • really good social game and is very likeability
  • edit credits him for the rome boot/great merge episode
  • survived even without winning immunity
  • gets a lot of emotional content with jeff talking to him after winning immunity

Negatives

  • got a 0 confessional episode
  • very low confessional time (6:09 mins)
  • has gone very quiet in post-merge confessionals-wise
  • grossly misreads Genevieve in his confessional (says she's not a thinker when she's clearly shown to be a thinker)
  • still an immunity threat and looks to be in trouble this week
  • muddy in the opening credits & looking away
  • hasn't titled an episode

#8. Sue (7:7)

Positives

  • "i'm 59 and i beat all your asses" quote
  • victory pose in opening credits
  • narrative story of being underestimated by men
  • some personal content (pilot)
  • strong alliance with Caroline
  • making inroads with a lot of key players (new endgame alliance forming with Andy)
  • is shown as part of the "underdogs" alliance in the NTOS

Negatives

  • backstory package was cut
  • had a 0 confessional episode POST-MERGE in an ep where it was a TUKU ONLY TRIBAL
  • idol still hasn't been brought up
  • has gone silent in post-merge (very little confessional time - 8:00 minutes)
  • could be seen as an immunity threat later
  • was clowned on HARD by the edit with that Kyle montage (just to lose to him in the challenge)
  • negative SPV from Andy talking about how she's easy to beat at the end
